About Us
The Language Exchange, Inc. began in 1986 as a
one-woman operation. After 4 years in South America,
college degrees for Universidad Catolica and the
University of Washington and doctoral degree work at
University of St. Andrews, Scotland and University of
Texas, Austin, Jaye Stover took up residence in rural
Skagit County, Washington.
Before long county offices began asking for her
assistance with Spanish-speaking clients. Washington
State began Interpreter Certification and Jaye became
certified as a Court and Social Service Interpreter. As
demand grew for professional interpreting in all
languages, Jaye began to teach interpreting techniques
to bilingual people to ready them for a variety of
assignments. Today The Language Exchange works with
over 1000 interpreters of some 35 languages and
continues to provide training for those who wish to take
certification exams.
An office staff of 13 schedules hundreds of appointments
per week and includes a separate Translation Division.
We hold a federal GSA contract for certified translation
services and continue to expand our translation services
in many states and counties, primarily for business,
education and law. We are still located in northwest
Washington and are HUBZone, Minority-Owned and Diversity
Business Certified. The Language Exchange, Inc. is
a member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce.
We are committed to educating the
public about professional translation and interpreting
and belong to American Translators Association, National
Association of Judiciary Translators and Interpreters,
Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society and
Washington Interpreters and Translators Society. We
also stress “smart work” through technology, having had
written custom software programs to select linguists for
the services requested. Our “turn-over” is low, which
tells you that we love our work, run a good show and are
here for the duration! Try us out!
